Rock Steady Boxing is a non-contact program designed for individuals with Parkinson’s disease. Participants can help improve their strength, balance, and coordination in our interactive sessions. Find out how our center celebrated Parkinson’s Awareness Month with our inspiring program, a guest speaker, and delicious treats.
Fighting for Better Health
On Tuesday, April 28, we celebrated our Rock Steady Boxing participants during their class with Coach Danica. After finishing their regular workout, which featured a dynamic warm-up and stations for balance, agility, coordination, strength, and cardio, the group had fun with their favorite speed bag and boxing drills. They also took some time to socialize and enjoy refreshments and snacks together.
Once class ended, we asked our Special Programs Coordinator, Charmaine, her thoughts on this event. “It was a wonderful morning and a true honor to celebrate this amazing group of fighters. They have built such a strong sense of community that’s full of encouragement and determination. With Coach Danica’s guidance and their persistence, they tackle daily challenges like champions as they strive to improve their quality of life.”
Changing Lives Through Fitness
We were also honored to welcome Jessica from the Parkinson’s Foundation as our guest speaker. She gave an engaging and informative talk about the various services and educational resources the organization offers. By combining these resources with the benefits of fitness, we worked together to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
Long-time member and Rock Steady Boxing participant, PJ, reflected on his experience with the program. “Having been a member of Loyola Fitness Center for ten years, it has always been a special place for me. While the center offers many fitness opportunities, the friendships I made have proven to be valuable. I received a Parkinson’s disease diagnosis in 2023, and little did I know that exercise is one of the best ways to fight off Parkinson’s progression. I have been taking Rock Steady Boxing classes for about two years now, and I highly enjoy them. Jessica from the Parkinson’s Foundation shared tips on hospitalization and how to prepare for an upcoming appointment. As I left class, I realized how much I had learned in just an hour.”
Consider joining a fun and inclusive fitness program that fits your specific needs. Train and exercise with us to support a healthier, happier you.
