The most accessible is our Mat Classes which are found on the group exercise schedule several times a week. Pilates Mat is the distilled version of the work created by Joseph Pilates that takes place in a simple mat on the floor. During the 55 minute class, The spine and all the joints take turns stabilizing and mobilizing the body through a comprehensive range of motion. Particular attention is paid to breathe and posture.
Loyola Center for Fitness also offers group classes on the Pilates equipment, the Reformer and the Tower. There are three levels of these classes: Basic, Intermediate and Advanced. These classes are currently held in four-week sessions on the Racquetball court. The Reformer and the Tower are two of the “machines” designed by Joseph Pilates to focus attention on the uniform use of the body. These machines cradle and support the novice through the range of motion and challenge the more advanced practitioner through more complex movement. Focus is, as always, on breath and posture.
There is also a Private Pilates option at Loyola Center for Fitness. Half-hour and hour-long sessions are available to have the added scrutiny from the instructor that group scenarios may not allow. These are a great opportunity to have the very individual habits of your body addressed specifically. Private sessions can be purchased individually or in packages. To schedule these sessions, contact Delia at firstname.lastname@example.org.
